A Brief History of the Art Festival
In 2008, after a hiatus lasting several years, the Museum re-introduced the original Las Olas Art Festival to the area. The festival was originally conceived in the early 70’s by the Museum support group, Beaux Arts. For over 30 years, this community favorite known by its acronym L.O.A.F. (Las Olas Art Festival), returned to Las Olas Boulevard and the park previously named Bubier Park. Today the park situated across from the Museum has changed its name to Huizinga Plaza and the event name has changed to the Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale National Art Festival, but its roots are deeply planted as a noteworthy art event.
Since its resurrection in 2008, this prestigious event has established itself as an Art Festival of the highest caliber by participating artists and patrons alike. The National Art Festival attracts artists from around the nation and parts of the world. Not only does this grand outdoor event host award winning artists in mediums such as, painting, drawing, photography, ceramics, fiber arts and jewelry, but visitors will also have the opportunity to learn about area cultural organizations, enjoy live music, experience culinary delights, take in Museum exhibitions and all for a great reason. . . fostering creativity in our youth!

For A Great Cause. . . .Studio School Scholarship Fund
The National Art Festival serves as the fundraiser for the Museum’s Studio School Scholarship Fund. Since the Studio School’s doors opened just five years ago, over 500 scholarships have been awarded to students in grades from 1 – 12. The Studio School is a year-round program offering curriculum-based art classes to students of all ages, including adults.
All net proceeds from the event including donations of even a few dollars from festival patrons are added directly to the Scholarship Fund and awarded to students as class tuition. To learn more about the Studio School visit the web pages on our site, or stop by our booth and art corner during the festival. Last year it was a huge draw for families, art students, and interested visitors who had the opportunity to sketch from a live model, a still-life, or the surrounding landscape.

Deadline for Artist: September 30, 2009. Applications received after the deadline will still be considered on a space available basis.
